New CDC director says COVID vaccines won’t be available to the public for months

With Donald Trump’s false reservations and continuing problems with distribution, the new director of the CDC announced this week that it may take a few months before the COVID-19 vaccine is available to the general public.

Director Rochelle Walensky’s prediction contradicts the Trump administration’s previous assertion that the vaccine would be widely available in late February or early March. According to Walensky through the Today show, this is not happening. Currently, the Biden administration is dedicated to the goal of distributing 100 million doses in the first 100 days.

“I don’t think that at the end of February we will have the vaccine in all pharmacies in this country,” said Walensky. “We are going to follow that plan, but we also want to be well aware of the fact that after 100 days, there are still a lot of Americans who need the vaccine, so we have to step up to make sure we can get the most vaccine out there. “

State stocks are low because the Trump administration lied about its plan to keep the second shot in reserve. In the USA, more than 16 million people received the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and nearly 3 million were fully vaccinated.

“We recognize this as the most immediate emergency to bring this country back to health,” said Walensky. “At the moment, I think we still have vaccines on the shelves that we need to put on people, so we are setting up places where we can put them on people … We are looking for community vaccination centers, stadiums and gyms. We are looking for mobile units to really reach all corners of this country, health centers and pharmacies qualified by the federal government. “

The new administration is also trying to deal with the hesitation that many still have in receiving the vaccine.

“The hesitation of the vaccine comes in several different flavors, I will say,” she said. “Some people really need it to be convenient. Some people need permission to get the vaccine or enough time off to be able to take the day off if they don’t feel good the next day. they just want to see how things are going. Part of that is education … and we need to bring this science to them through their trusted people. “

It is possible that a third Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one injection, will be sent to the FDA for approval soon and could help the United States increase vaccine production. Until then, it seems that we will be out of the house and we will distance ourselves a little more.
