
Five states have expanded the eligibility of the coronavirus vaccine to anyone aged 16 and over, and at least another 22 plan to open it to people aged 16 and over by the end of April.
Alaska opened the vaccination for anyone aged 16 or over on March 9, Mississippi on March 16, West Virginia expanded on March 22, and Utah and state-run sites on certain Arizona counties opened on March 24. People aged 16 and over Oklahoma can be vaccinated through the Chickasaw Nation’s vaccination program, but not yet through the state program.
On Wednesday, Louisiana, Iowa and Washington are the last states to announce plans to expand the eligibility of the coronavirus vaccine to anyone aged 16 and over, announcing on Wednesday that they will expand vaccinations in late March, early April and May, respectively.
For all states that currently vaccinate anyone aged 16 or over, people aged 16 or 17 can only receive the Pfizer vaccine, as it is the only option authorized for use in that population to date. Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for use in adults over 18 years of age.
