A painting of a Paris street scene by Vincent Van Gogh was shown in public for the first time. On Wednesday, British auction company Sotheby announced that the 1887 painting will be shown for the first time in Hong Kong, Amsterdam and Paris.

Van Gogh’s painting is expected to be auctioned in March and estimated to sell for up to $ 7 million. The auction company said the painting was privately owned and had never been seen in person.

“The painting is a real rediscovery, which means that although it was published in comprehensive catalogs, it has never returned to the market since the day it was acquired by the family that owns it,” said Sotheby auctioneer Claudia Mercier. “So this painting has been in private hands for more than a century.”

Some of Van Gogh’s paintings are still privately owned, making this exhibition a historic event.
