Nevadans over 55 with underlying diseases now eligible for the COVID vaccine

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Snow-dwellers 55 and older with underlying health problems are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at local pharmacies.

The announcement was made during COVID’s state conference call on Monday.

James English, of the Washoe County Health District, said health care providers will begin vaccinating that specific group later this week or early next week.

Also announced on Monday, the WCHD said it is scheduled to receive more than 16,000 doses of the vaccine on Tuesday, March 16. This is a significant increase in the regular distribution of about 9,000 doses per week.

Washoe County is warning people aged 65 and over who are waiting for a vaccine appointment to check their email accounts, spam folders and junk mail for an invitation.

The sending will also allow the county to expand the availability of vaccination to more work groups.

“Because here in northern Nevada, we have a large stocking population and job groups, while in other parts of the state we don’t,” said English. “And with that, we hope to get to the point where we can start working with our hospitality groups and restaurant groups. But everything is still driven by the supply of vaccines. “

English says that most of the vaccine shipments this week are the Pfizer vaccine. The WCHD is receiving a smaller shipment of the Moderna vaccine. The Health District is still receiving part of the Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine, which will be distributed on Sunday.
