Nevada reports 659 COVID cases, 23 deaths, positivity rate of 14.8

Nevada on Wednesday reported 659 additional cases of coronavirus and 23 deaths the previous day.

The updated figures from the Department of Health and Human Services published on the state’s coronavirus website brought cumulative totals to 285,795 cases and 4,582 deaths.

The new cases were slightly above the 14-day moving average of 650 cases registered daily. Deaths, however, remained above the daily moving average of 15 for the two-week period, state data show.

The state’s positivity rate, which basically tracks the percentage of people tested for COVID-19 who were confirmed infected, fell to 14.8 percent – a reduction of 0.5 percentage point from the previous day. The rate has been dropping steadily since the peak of 21.7% on 13 January.

As of Wednesday, there were 922 people in Nevada hospitalized with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is 49 less than the day before, state data show. Data may fluctuate from day to day, but state officials have reported that total hospitalizations have declined in recent weeks, especially in the northern region of the state.

Clark County reported on Wednesday 602 new cases of coronavirus and 16 additional deaths, according to data published on the coronavirus website of the Southern Nevada Health District.

The updated figures brought cumulative totals to the county of 220,204 cases and 3,525 deaths.

The county’s two-week positivity rate on Wednesday fell 0.5 percentage points from the previous day to 16.2 percent, or 1.4 percentage points more than the state rate.
