Nevada on Tuesday reported 346 new cases of coronavirus and 14 additional deaths over the previous day, with both metrics rising above recent averages, according to state data.
The updated figures published on the coronavirus website of the Department of Health and Human Services raised the total in the state to 299,817 cases and 5,135 deaths.
All new fatalities occurred in Clark County, according to data published on the Southern Nevada Health District’s coronavirus website.
Nevada’s new cases were well above the 14-day moving average of daily reported cases, which dropped to 221. The new fatalities were also well above the two-week moving average of five deaths per day, state data show.
Despite recent above-average daily reports, all major disease metrics have declined in the state since mid-January or earlier, health officials said.
State and municipal health agencies often redistribute data after reporting to better reflect the date of death or onset of symptoms, which is why the moving average trend lines often differ from daily reports and are considered better indicators of the direction of the outbreak. .
The state’s two-week positivity rate, which basically tracks the percentage of people tested for COVID-19 who are confirmed infected, decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.5 percent.
The data also showed 300 people in Nevada were hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, which is five fewer than the day before and less than a seventh of the 2,126 peak on December 22, according to state data.
Meanwhile, in Clark County, there were 294 new cases registered on Tuesday. The cumulative total for the municipality rose to 231,710 cases and 4,021 deaths, according to the health district.
The county’s two-week positivity rate also fell 0.2 percentage points on Tuesday, reaching 5.8 percent, state data show. The index is 0.3 percentage point higher than the state average.
