The number of new COVID-19 cases in Nevada increased to 1,328 from the previous day, with the state adding 37 deaths from the disease, according to state data published on Friday.
The latest figures from the Department of Health and Human Services have raised the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the state to 276,279, while deaths have increased the death toll to 4,218.
The new cases were well above the 14-day moving average of 1,055 per day and reached the highest one-day total since Saturday, when 1,501 cases were reported.
Deaths were well above the 14-day moving average of 19 a day.
The state’s positivity rate, essentially the percentage of people tested who confirm they have coronavirus disease, continued its recent drop from a 21.7 percent rise on January 13 to 18 percent. The prospective metric is still more than triple the World Health Organization’s 5% target, but state public officials say it indicates that the state’s mitigation and vaccination efforts are having an impact on the spread of the disease.
State data show that 1,290 patients with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 occupied hospital beds in Nevada on Thursday, minus 32 from the previous day.
Meanwhile, Clark County reported 1,122 new cases of COVID-19 and 27 deaths the previous day, according to the Southern Nevada Health District. This raised cumulative totals for the county to 212,575 cases and 3,234 deaths.
