Netflix’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ shows early images of a new fantasy series

Netflix removed the first images from its fantasy series “Shadow and Bones”.

The series is an adaptation of the bestselling novels Grishaverse by author Leigh Bardugo and will debut on the streaming service on April 23.

According to the synopsis, “Shadow and Bone” finds us in a world torn by war, where the humble soldier and orphan Alina Starkov has just released an extraordinary power that may be the key to liberating his country. With the monstrous Shadowfold threat looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha.

“These photos offer a glimpse into the expansive, textured world that Leigh created in his books,” said executive producer / showrunner Eric Heissere in a press release about what to expect from the show.

“We work tirelessly to create a sensation lived in fictional lands like Ketterdam and Ravka, with invented languages, uniforms, currency and artistic choices, from scenography to costumes,” he added.

“‘Shadow and Bone’ takes place in a very different kind of fantasy world,” explained Bardugo, who is also an EP on the series.

“Think of Imperial Russia, not medieval England, repeating rifles instead of swords. It’s a story about people who heard how much they didn’t matter, proving how much they did. And it’s amazing to see this story take shape on an epic scale, the battles , magic, but also the relationships between the characters ”, he added.
