Netflix’s Pacific Rim anime gets first teaser and release date

The world of mechs fighting kaiju in circle of fire is expanding into anime territory. Pacific Rim: The Black is the next Netflix animated series based on the films of Guillermo Del Toro. The first film, directed by Del Toro, debuted in 2013, with a sequel to Steven S. DeKnight in 2018.

The show follows two brothers forced to fly an abandoned Jaeger mech while searching for their missing parents. It was announced in 2018, with the title officially revealed at the end of 2020. Now, the first teaser of the show reveals the desolate world, where Kaiju conquered Australia. There is not much more in the way of plot details, but we see the two main brothers driving their Jaeger and starting the drift sequence. Come on, power of human connection in the face of overwhelming monstrosities!

Craig Kyle, Marvel comic writer, and Greg Johnson, Marvel animation writer, serve as producers of Pacific Rim: The Black, with Polygon Pictures doing the animation.

Pacific Rim: The Black arrives on Netflix on March 4.
