Netflix’s ‘Lupine’ Tops ‘Bridgerton,’ ‘Queen’s Gambit’ With 70M Households – Deadline

From Netflix Lupine is prepared to set a global benchmark for a French series in service with 70 million families designed to attend five parties during its first 28 days. This is bigger than another recent successful English series Bridgerton (projected at 63M) and The Queen’s Gambit (62 million reais). Omar Sy-starrer made its debut on Netflix on January 8 and quickly became the first French series to make the streamer’s list of the 10 most popular.

He easily reached the top spot in France and remains in that position today. Netflix reports that it was also ranked No. 1 in Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and many other countries. Lupine it’s 93% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Untouchables‘Sy stars as Assane Diop, who uses the world famous thief and master of disguise Arsène Lupine as his inspiration. The French original by Gaumont Télévision is created by George Kay (Criminal UK, Killing Eve) in collaboration with François Uzan (Family business) and is a contemporary adaptation of the novels by French writer Maurice LeBlanc, who created the character in 1905. The books have been adapted in dozens of TV series and films over the years.

Since the series’ launch, Leblanc’s original book has regained international interest with it now being a trend in many markets in France, Italy, Spain, the United States, the United Kingdom, Korea and others. Just yesterday, the French national radio, FranceInfo, presented the program as part of its daily children’s program, FranceInfo Junior, bringing a scholar Arsène Lupine to educate young people about the character’s origins.

What happens in Paris – and taking advantage of the city’s locations – Lupinethe first five-part series, Dans L’Ombre D’Arsène (in the shadow of Arsène), presents Diop de Sy who, as a teenager, saw his life upset when his father died after being accused of a crime he did not commit. Now, Diop wants to avenge his father and deceive just about everyone along the way.
