Netflix unveils plans to release movies every week in 2021 with a coil full of stars

While the coronavirus pandemic drives the film industry into a free fall, Netflix is gearing up to fill the gap, promising to release at least one original film each week in 2021.

The hugely popular streaming service has launched a reel full of stars showing the more than 70 titles it hopes to launch in the new year. Presented by the stars of the long-awaited film “Red Notice” – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds – the trio leads viewers through a list of action, comedy, musical and dramatic films that are expected to appear on Netflix throughout the year.

They joined other stars like Halle Berry, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joey King, Amy Adams, Chris Hemsworth, Melissa McCarthy and many more.

In addition to “Red Notice”, other highlights include sneak peeks in the western “The Harder They Fall” with Regina King and Idris Elba, as well as “Batman vs. Superman” by director Zack Snyder, “Army of the Dead”, starring bold names like Dave Bautista and Tig Notaro. Also on the reel are Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence for their film “Don’t Look Up”.

The sizzle reel also gives fans a first look at the final episodes in the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “The Kissing Booth” trilogies.

Netflix is in a solid position to dominate the film industry in 2021, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to force cinemas to close or starve to release new content. The studios have postponed much of their marketable tents until the end of the year, for fear that no one can or wants to go to a theater to see them.

Netflix, in turn, can launch new content directly into people’s homes on its platform, leaving it uninhibited by the pandemic. As a result, it is possible that the conversation around films in 2021 will be largely dominated by Netflix originals.
