Google’s Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has been discontinued because the Google Store sold its last stock. Don’t worry if you expected to buy one, as Google also confirms that a new line of security cameras is due to arrive later this year. However, the recently exhausted model will continue to receive software updates and feature support.

Nest Cam IQ Outdoor’s $ 399 IP-rated inventory has fluctuated across Google’s various regional storefronts in recent weeks. Since then, Google has confirmed that it has “sold out” the product, which will no longer be available for purchase on the Google Store, although it continues to receive updates (as we expected, given the price). In our review, we found it to be a capable smart home security camera with class-leading video quality and functionality, although the price was problematic – not that it matters now. Although some third-party resellers are still selling them, it looks like the camera has been discontinued.

This leads us to this latest development: According to a statement provided to 9to5Google, confirmed to us by Google, a new set of smart home cameras will be launched later this year. A Google spokesman told us, “Nest will continue to invest in innovations, including a new line of security cameras for 2021.” Other details about the schedule were not provided, but I hope they are more competitively priced than current models.

Google is clearly aware that the price of its smart home package is an issue, as last year it reformulated Nest Aware’s prices to make it more accessible by camera (although the change was not entirely for the better). Other hardware products in the current line range from $ 129 for the basic internal Nest Cam to $ 300 for the internal Nest Cam IQ. This is much more than the cost of many other cameras compatible with the Assistant, especially given the random problems they have. Other smart home companies, like Wyze, are reducing Google’s price by a literal order of magnitude for their cameras connected to the Assistant, so we have to assume that Google is paying attention.

Just a few days ago, a new and likely Nest brand device arrived at the FCC. We’re not sure what it is, but it has a screen, Soli and Zigbee technology inside it – perhaps a successor to Nest Secure or a new smart monitor, or both? Whatever it ends up being, it can be part of the new formation when it lands. And since the delay between the appearance of the FCC and the launch is usually only a month or two, we may not have to wait long.
