Nest Cam IQ Outdoor sold out in most countries

Google’s Nest security camera line has remained unchanged for the past three years. Nest Cam IQ Outdoor was the last new product announced, but it has been out of stock in most parts of the world in recent weeks.

Update: The company confirmed the 9to5Google that Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is sold out, while existing owners will continue to receive security updates. Meanwhile, Google will launch a new line of security cameras later this year.

“Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has sold out and will no longer be available on the Google Store. Nest Cam IQ Outdoor users will not see any changes in their services. We will continue to provide ongoing support for features, software patches and critical security updates. “

The Nest Cam line starts with the choice between the internal or external variant and then decides whether to upgrade to the IQ model. For $ 399, Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is the most expensive version available for $ 100.

A 4K sensor – streaming in 1080p – allows 12x digital zoom that can automatically follow the action. In practice, it can “detect a person up to 50 feet away”, which is twice the range of the regular outdoor unit.

Like a camera that must be placed outside, there is a mount blocked with a hidden power cable and an IP66 rating to face the elements. On the audio front, there is a triple microphone array with noise / echo suppression and a 15x more powerful speaker.

The USA, Canada and 10 Europeans – France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Denmark and Finland – Google Stores today lists Nest Cam IQ Outdoor as “sold out”. International reports of supply restrictions date back to the last quarter of 2020. In the United States, other retailers have listed the camera as having limited availability or OOS in recent weeks. That said, it remains available in the UK and Ireland.

There are no supply issues for Google’s other three Nest cameras today. The last major software update was in 2018, when Nest Cam IQ Indoor added Google Assistant, while Cam Indoor – which is largely based on the original Dropcam acquisition – saw a price cut from $ 70 to $ 129, 99 in May.

Compared to Nest Hubs, speakers and thermostats, Google did not iterate so quickly on its other smart products. Nest Cam IQ Outdoor was announced along with Nest Secure, which was officially discontinued last year. Looking to the future, these two products are very focused on security and may have successors when the ADT + Google agreement comes to fruition.
