The least pleasant part of a friendly Nerf battle is not being hit, it is having to stop constantly to reload your blaster. The drawback improved with Rival line from Nerf, which debuted in 2015, but for 2021 the company is presenting a new line of Hyper blasters that throw smaller foam balls so you spend less time reloading.

The Rival line was not the first time Nerf used foam balls as an alternative to darts ammunition, but the real appeal was that she could throw those tiny balls (which looked like miniaturized golf balls) at speeds up to 70 MPH, or about 30 meters per second. Not fast enough to leave a bruise, as paint balls can, but enough speed to avoid being hit during a gunfight. For his new Hyper line, Nerf has redesigned these foam balls with new bouncy material that flies farther and faster, although increasing the speed to about 110 feet per second is now not the real appeal here.

The reduced size of Nerf Hyper ammunition means that a hopper or magazine has four times the capacity it would have with Nerf Rival rounds. Therefore, a Rival blaster with a 100-shot funnel could, in theory, now contain 400 Hyper rounds, but as a new, smaller firing mechanism is required, it appears that the new Hyper balls are not backward compatible.

Instead, in 2021, Nerf will launch the Hyper line with three blasters to start: the $ 30 Nerf Hyper Rush-40 with a pistol design and a 40-shot funnel, the $ 40 Nerf Hyper Siege-50 with capacity 50-shot and pump-action shotgun design, and the $ 70 fully automatic Nerf Hyper Mach-100 that uses D-size batteries to quickly empty your 100-shot funnel if you keep the trigger pulled.

It is not known whether Nerf will continue to add to the Rival line when the Hyper line is available. But with better distance, faster speeds, bigger capacities and a cheaper price per dose (200 rounds of Hyper cost less than $ 30), it’s hard to imagine fans not eagerly embracing the new line and saying goodbye full of tears Rival.
