‘Neon White’ is a new game for Switch and PC from the guy behind ‘Donut County’

Neon White was a surprise announcement during Nintendo Direct’s live stream today – it’s a stylish first-person platform and action game about exterminating demons in a fantastic version of Paradise, and it’s coming to Switch and PC this winter. That is not the most surprising part, however. It is developed by Ben Esposito, the creator of Donut County, an adorable game that serves as a love letter to Los Angeles, and OK KO! writer Ryann Shannon is working on the words.

Neon White it looks like a new approach to game development for Esposito, featuring fast mechanics and a style inspired by mask-based anime. The protagonist is an assassin from Hell called White, who is in Heaven with a mission to eradicate an infestation of demons and potentially gain a permanent place beyond the Pearly Gates. Players collect soul cards to attack enemies and perform powerful moves, and everything unfolds from an extremely fast first-person perspective.

Annapurna Interactive publisher says Neon White has “an incredibly clever story that proves it’s never too late to ask for forgiveness”. In the same press release, Esposito is quoted as saying: “Neon White is a first-person action platform game inspired by Y2K-era anime and classic cult character action games. Our goal is to make the demo disc’s worst game. It is wild and exaggerated, and it is 100 percent serious. It’s an animated sprint game made for freaks, by freaks. “

Neon White is available for wish list on Steam now.
