West Virginia football coach Neal Brown did not measure the words, dispelling recent rumors that he was a candidate for the position of head coach at South Carolina University.
“I’m not a candidate there,” said Brown. “I don’t try to address all the rumors like that out there … but it’s very simple, I’m not a candidate there.
There were reports over the weekend that South Carolina was interested in Brown for the job and wanted to interview him. Brown said rumors like that could come from anyone, legitimate or not.
He said the fact that such rumors are out there could be a good thing for the WVU’s perception.
“I think it’s good because people are paying attention and thinking that we’re doing something right, so I think it’s positive that way,” said Brown with a smile.
