The NCAA will allow a limited number of fans in all rounds of this year’s NCAA men’s tournament, it announced on Friday.
Up to 25% of capacity with physical distance will be allowed in all rounds, including Final Four, a decision taken in conjunction with state and local health officials in Indiana. The 25% will include all participants, employees and family members, as well as fans. Masks and physical distance will be required.
“We continue to use the knowledge we have acquired over the season on how to conduct games in a safe environment,” said NCAA President Mark Emmert in a statement.
The entire tournament will take place in and around Indianapolis. The teams will be staying in hotels near the Indiana Convention Center, which will be used as a practice site.
“This year’s tournament will be like no other, and while we know it won’t be the same for anyone, we look forward to providing a memorable experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans once in a lifetime tournament,” said the deputy. senior basketball president of the NCAA, Dan Gavitt. “After the 2020 tournament was canceled, we are happy to welcome some fans back to all rounds of the Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament.”
Final Four will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium, with previous rounds at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, as well as Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
The Assembly Hall will allow 500 spectators to watch the games held there, said Indiana University.
Selection Sunday is scheduled for March 14, with the Final Four taking place on April 3 and 5.
