The first day of the NCAA women’s basketball tournament was all chalk, while the top-ranked teams made way for the second round. Now that these teams are back in action for the round of 16, perhaps Tuesday could bring some more surprises.

Here is the schedule for the day and the odds for each of the eight matches:

  • No. 8 South Florida vs. No. 1 State of North Carolina (-16.5), 15:00 Eastern Time, ESPN2
  • No. 5 Iowa (-8) vs. No. 4 Kentucky, 15:30 ET, ESPNU
  • No. 6 Michigan vs. No. 3 Tennessee (-6.5), 5 pm ET, ESPN2
  • No. 5 Georgia Tech vs. No. 4 West Virginia (-2.5), 17:30 ET, ESPNU
  • No. 7 Virginia Tech vs. No. 2 Baylor (-16), 19h ET, ESPN2
  • No. 8 Oregon State vs. No. 1 South Carolina (-7), 19h ET, ESPN
  • No. 8 Syracuse vs. No. 1 Connecticut (-20.5), 9 pm ET, ESPN
  • No. 8 Oklahoma State vs. No. 1 Stanford (-15.5), 21h00 ET, ESPN2

With Connecticut’s No. 1 scheduled to pass through Syracuse, many will watch Iowa’s game against Kentucky, as fans will be able to see Paige Bueckers vs. Caitlin Clark on Sweet 16.

Of course, that should not overshadow the fact that the Hawkeyes will have to stop Wildcats star Rhyne Howard on Tuesday. Howard has an average of 20.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists, and the junior guard is fresh from a first round victory over the state of Idaho, in which he almost scored a double-double (14 points, nine rebounds) to go along with five assists and four steals.

Clark was equally excellent, with 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in Iowa’s victory over Central Michigan.

For casual fans, Iowa / Kentucky may be the only game you do anything to watch.

As the probability creators indicate, none of the four No. 1 seeds looks very vulnerable at the moment. UConn and Stanford each won 43 points in the opening round. The state of North Carolina started out a little slow against North Carolina’s A&T, but ended up hitting the pitch in the second half. And South Carolina found few problems with Mercer.

The seven-point gap that separates Oregon’s Gamecocks is a somewhat surprising number.

Oregon’s 12-7 record is misleading because of the Pac-12’s strength. According In their Hoops Stats, the Beavers averaged 102.5 points per 100 possessions in the regular season and kept opponents at an effective field-goal rate of 43.7%.

Still, South Carolina is overcoming the opposition by 24.3 points per 100 possessions, while playing against the fourth most difficult calendar in terms of the opponent’s winning percentage, by Your basketball stats.

Aliyah Boston and Victaria Saxton scored 20 points each on Sunday, with Boston having 18 rebounds. If Boston and Saxton are controlling the internal game that way again, then Gamecocks could make the state of Oregon’s job easier.
