NC winter weather: parts of central North Carolina can see snow, sleet or freezing rain on Sunday morning from Triangle to areas north of I-85

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – North Carolina’s central region may have a more wintry climate this weekend.

A Winter Climate Warning from the Triangle to the north and west takes effect from Saturday night to Sunday morning.

Throughout the day on Saturday, the sun will give way to clouds and there may be some gusts of snow at night, but nothing like the snow that fell some days ago.

However, Sunday is a different story. A light winter mix is possible in the early morning of the northern triangle, around 7:00 am to 9:00 am, bringing hail, snow or freezing rain. It should switch to rain after that. ABC11 meteorologist Steve Stewart says there may be up to 0.20 ” of ice accumulation north and west of I-85 and travel should be avoided in these areas, if possible, tomorrow morning.

Although the effect on the Triangle should be minimal, freezing rain can cause some slippery spots on the roads, as temperatures fluctuate around the freezing mark.
