NC Tornado: 3 dead, 10 injured, dozens of houses destroyed by bad weather in Brunswick County, North Carolina

BOLIVIA, NC (WTVD) – A tornado killed three people and injured at least 10 others in Brunswick County, according to the local sheriff.

“It is something unlike anything I have seen before. A lot of destruction. It will be a long recovery process,” said Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram.

It happened around midnight Monday through Tuesday.

The National Meteorological Service reports that several houses were damaged by the suspect tornado. Brunswick County Emergency Management reported that many people were trapped inside their damaged homes.

The worst damage happened to the Ocean Ridge Plantation Community. All injuries and deaths occurred in that area.

Rescue operations were underway in the early hours of the morning and several reports of missing persons were filed. However, investigators now say that all the missing have been found.

The crews resumed surveying the damage when the sun rose on Tuesday morning.

Local authorities plan to update the public on recovery efforts around noon.
