NC climate: bad weather leaves central North Carolina largely unscathed

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – Severe weather warnings punctuated central North Carolina on Thursday, but most of the region escaped unscathed.

Despite several tornado warnings, the only damage report in the region was in Orange County.

In the Cedar Grove neighborhood, trees were uprooted, roofs were damaged, a basketball hoop was broken in half and a trampoline was seen flying down the street.

The National Meteorological Service is sending a research team to examine the damage and determine whether it was caused by a tornado or straight winds.

This team will begin to examine the damage in Guilford County at 8 am and then move east.

The storms left the region on Thursday night, but some rain will last until Friday.

Temperatures Friday started in the 1950s, but in fact it will get colder as the day progresses. You can expect it to be also very airy for most of the day.

Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures in the 50’s, with more sun on Saturday and more heat on Sunday.
