The news that NBCSN will end at the end of the year was received by some with confusion and surprise (and in some cases, superfluous condolences). After all, NBCSN ranked second only to ESPN’s primary network in cable sports ratings in 2018. If it weren’t for the Olympics postponement, NBCSN would have landed in the same place in 2020.
So, why shut down a lucrative five-letter sports network? It is part of a strategy focused on growth and expansion, not reduction and surrender.
The USA Network is likely to emerge as a force similar to TNT, with a mix of sports and non-sports programming. Already in six million more homes than NBCSN, the move of certain sporting events to the USA Network instantly raises its profile and improves the USA Network’s position.
Then there’s Peacock, the still-new streaming service that continues to grow, thanks in large part to the exclusive presence of all nine seasons of The office – along with extended episodes for the entire third season, and more seasons of extended episodes to come. Last August, the live edition of PFT Live changed from NBCSN to Peacock as part of this transition to a model that provides access to many sports-based programs (such as PFT Live and its afternoon component, PFT PM) free of charge, without the need for cable or satellite packages.
It’s where I live PFT Live show has been going on for months, and that’s where it will continue to be. It will also be available to air at your convenience.
For those who don’t want to pay for another streaming service, much of Peacock’s content (including the sports channel with PFT Live, The Dan Patrick Show, The Rich Eisen Show, Brother of another, PFT PM and more) is free. For $ 4.99 a month, premium content (including all The office and much, much more) can be unlocked. For $ 9.99 a month, everything can be consumed without commercials.
But we still don’t want to pay for another streaming service. Well, then, no; try Peacock and ask yourself, “Do I like it better than one of my other streaming services?”
If you do, keep Peacock and get rid of one of the others. Otherwise, you can still maintain Peacock’s free level, including free access to our shows.
You can also listen PFT Live and PFT PM live on SiriusXM 211. You can download podcasts from wherever you get them. You can see clips from the show on YouTube. Or, if you are reading these words, you will see many video clips attached to most, if not all, of the stories posted here on PFT.
We don’t forget our curiously strong followers in the UK and Ireland. PFT Live will still air on Sky Sports NFL at 7 pm local time. Every Wednesday, PFT PM is broadcast live at 10:00 pm local time. (If you want more nights, get more people to attend on Wednesdays).
