NBA shows Bulls-Pistons in place of postponed Hornets game

Reschedule your calendars.

That Wednesday night at the Bulls game at Charlotte Hornets that the NBA postponed on Tuesday morning? Replace it with a home game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday at 7 pm CT, the league announced hours later.

The postponement of the Bulls-Hornets came as part of a series of schedule changes made by the league in the wake of an outbreak of COVID-19 in the San Antonio Spurs. Spurs, who had four games postponed from February 16 to 22, and Hornets, whose next two games were postponed, faced off on Sunday. Both teams are currently looking for contacts.

The Pistons were scheduled to play against the Spurs in Detroit on Tuesday and the Mavericks in Dallas on Wednesday, but both were postponed, the latter because of “severe weather” in Dallas.

Given the newly discovered gaps in their respective timelines, geographical proximity and clean COVID-19 sheets, sliding into one of Bulls and Pistons’ three fights this season makes sense.

The Bulls and Pistons were not originally scheduled to play in the first half of the NBA’s 2020-21 schedule, which was released separately from the second half (yet to be announced) to allow for a change in schedule. The Bulls are scheduled to face the Pistons twice in Detroit and once in Chicago this season, so this clash would theoretically mark the isolated clash at the Bulls’ home.

Each team comes into play flying high, albeit with uninspiring overall records. The Pistons (8-19) have won twice in a row and three of the last four, including wins over Brooklyn Nets (without Kevin Durant) and Boston Celtics. The Bulls (11-15), meanwhile, are recently from an exciting victory at the Indiana Pacers in overtime on Monday, which saw Wendell Carter Jr. return productive after an 11-game injury absence.

“Whenever I come back from these injuries, it is always invigorating to be back with my teammates,” said Carter after the competition. “Going to the next game, we just have to continue with the physicality with which we played tonight.”

Initially, it looked like the Bulls would have to wait for a chance to take advantage of that momentum. The opportunity now beckons.
