NBA rumors: Celtics finalize exchanges for Magic point guard Evan Fournier

Danny Ainge took a step.

The Boston Celtics acquired Evan Fournier in an exchange with the Orlando Magic, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Thursday.

The Celtics will send Orlando two choices in the second round of the draft in exchange for Fournier, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who was the first to report the deal.

Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports reported that Boston was still in business negotiations with Magic involving Aaron Gordon, but the Denver Nuggets reportedly beat C to switch to the veteran striker.

Fournier is a solid pickup for the Celtics. The 28-year-old has an average of 19.7 points per game, the record of his career, with 46.1% of pitches (38.8% in the 3-point range) and gives the C’s a scoring boost out of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Fournier is enjoying a career season in Orlando.

Fournier is earning $ 17 million this season in the last year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer, unless he agrees to an extension before off-season.

UPDATE (3:35 pm Eastern Time): Jeff Teague will go to Magic as part of the Fournier deal and will be dismissed by Orlando, reports Jared Weiss of The Athletic. Here’s the full deal:
