The initial vote for the NBA 2021 All-Star used to be based solely on the vote of the fans. Most of the time, fans voted for the best players. However, sometimes they would vote for an unknown veteran who doesn’t deserve it.
Perhaps it is for this reason that the NBA now does not just consider the vote of fans to start All-Star. Fans get only 50% of the votes. Players represent 25% and the selected media has another 25%. This effectively makes the NBA All-Star’s initial voting process its version of the “Electoral College”. Personally, I think the star vote for starters should remain for fans only, while coaches, players and the media can determine reserves. In my opinion, it ends with the grace of voting.
Earlier today, the Washington Wizards guard was named starting lineup due to his overall ranking. He led the fan vote among Eastern Conference guards with 3,485,051 votes. But he also led the media player E vote!
In most years, given that Wizards are not the most popular NBA team, we often expect players and / or the media to “assist” them to help classify their players. But this year, there was no doubt that Beal would be a starter in this game.
The 2021 NBA All-Star Game will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, March 7.
