Naval mine hits shore in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Florida. – A naval mine landed in Broward County, where many people go to relax on the beach.

An investigation is underway and a response team has been activated.

All of this happened on Lauderdale-by-the-Sea beach on Pine Avenue.

A section of the beach has been isolated by the Broward sheriff’s office.

According to the BSO, a patrol officer discovered the “possible military explosive training device” at about 2:30 am on Sunday.

Naval mines are used in the ocean as an explosive unit to damage surface or submarine displacements.

It looked like the word “inert” was written on the mine, which means it could be a ‘fictitious’ mine used in training, but that does not exclude that it can be active.

The United States Air Force was contacted by the BSO and responded to examine the mine, and a BSO bomb squad was also called in to examine it.

The officers finally succeeded and removed the mine. He will be in the custody of the Air Force for further examination and investigation.
