No. 3 Ohio State will have even fewer players against No. 1 Alabama at the College Football Playoff National Championship. Buckeyes’ star, the running back, Trey Sermon left the field to go to the locker room after his team’s opening run was three to three. According to ESPN reporter Maria Taylor, Sermon was then transported to the hospital for a more detailed assessment and will lose the rest of the game.
The status of Sermon’s injury is not yet known, but he appeared to be favoring his left arm / shoulder when leaving the field with team coaches. Taylor reported that he was unable to raise his arm. He had a 2-meter run and was injured in his lonely transport.
Certainly, losing Sermon is a crushing blow to Ohio’s offense. The Oklahoma transfer really happened in the last three games, accounting for 636 yards and four touchdowns since the Michigan game on December 5. He became a big part of the attack’s game plan, and his stamina played an important role in defeating Northwestern in the Big Ten title and Clemson in the semifinal.
Ohio State has Master Teague as another race option. Teague led the team with six consecutive touchdowns this season and scored in the first quarter of the game to draw 7-7.
