Nate Diaz reacts to Conor McGregor’s defeat by KO to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257

As expected, Nate Diaz was not silent for long about how Saturday’s lightweight main attraction fell in Abu Dhabi.

In the main event of UFC 257, Dustin Poirier avenged his knockout loss at UFC 178 to Conor McGregor with a spectacular submission to end the third trip of the promotion to Fight Island in 2021. “The Diamond” stopped McGregor in the second round to get the biggest victory of his career and probably prepared for a lightweight championship opportunity.

Diaz, who became the first to submit McGregor in the UFC at UFC 196, took to Twitter on Sunday to give his quick reaction to McGregor’s first knockout loss in the promotion.

The Stockton native has not fought since UFC 244, when he fought Jorge Masvidal for the “BMF” belt and lost by medical stoppage in the main event. Diaz did not have much to say during the run-up to the fight, but he agreed after the very respectful confrontation between participants in the main event on Friday.

Diaz has always been linked to McGregor as half of one of the sport’s most important rivalries. In the first of the two clashes, Diaz replaced the injured Rafael dos Anjos in the main fight of UFC 196 and submitted the former two-time champion in the second round to win the biggest victory of his career. McGregor recovered five months later at UFC 202 and won a split decision very close in the rematch.

While a trilogy fight with McGregor seems to be one of the most intriguing options after the second defeat in three fights for “The Notorious”, Poirier also expressed an interest in fighting Diaz at the post-fight press conference on Saturday night.
