NASCAR adjusted the bus stop chicane on the Daytona International Speedway Road Course ahead of this weekend’s national series triple header, following driver feedback on the season’s opening Busch Clash.
The approval body added noise streaks to the Curve 9 and Curve 10 chicane on the back straight to prevent cars from entering the grass and spreading dirt onto the racing surface and other cars.

The noise ranges will be the same as the front chicane. The one to the right of the driver at the entrance is approximately 36 feet long and the other is approximately 30 feet long.
Several drivers brought the idea to NASCAR’s leadership, with Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe among the group contributing specific ideas.
“It seemed like a good solution for me in a short time,” said Alan Gustafson, Chase Elliott’s team leader. “It must be good. I really don’t have a problem with guys straightening that bus stop. That’s their job. That’s what they should do. Only dirt was a problem.”
Elliott will attempt to win his third consecutive NASCAR Cup Series race at Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 253 in Daytona (3 pm ET, FOX, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). He will start on pole with Daytona 500 champion Michael McDowell, alongside him on the front row.
Elliott won the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race last year on the course layout and almost won the Busch Clash event as well. An aggressive move to victory resulted in Elliott and race leader Ryan Blaney stepping out of contention, allowing Busch to drive to victory.
