The taste of spring that Minnesota has had in the past few days will be swept away by a quick shot of snow late Saturday night and Sunday morning, and the totals can be quite impressive where a narrow strip of heavy precipitation forms.
According to the National Meteorological Service, there may be a narrow corridor that ends with 5-7 inches of snow. It is where a winter storm alert was issued in southwest Minnesota, while a winter weather alert is in effect further east and north, including the twin cities, where 5 to 10 inches of snow can accumulate.
“Predicting the exact location is difficult due to the small impacted area and the uncertainties in the configuration,” says the NWS.
“A strip of snow will form from southwestern Minnesota to northwestern Wisconsin as a low surface deepens in Iowa. The total snowfall generally appears to be in the 2-4 inch range, with quantities rapidly decreasing with each side of the track, “NWS explains.

The meteorological service notes that locally higher quantities are possible in areas expected to reach 5 to 10 centimeters. This map can change with any slight change in the storm’s trail.
Here is the 8 am radar simulation of the NAM computer model, which shows snow starting in southwest Minnesota on Saturday night and arriving at the twin cities at midnight. The snow may end around noon on Sunday.
The second half of next week seems to have much hotter temperatures, as March rolls like a lamb, as temperatures in the first half of the month will be above normal, possibly reaching 50 degrees next week.
