One of the big companies in the family history sector has developed a new technology that transforms still images into moving images.
Now people are using MyHeritage’s “Deep Nostalgia” photo animation feature to bring all types of historical photos to life.
MyHeritage presented Deep Nostalgia last week at RootsTech Connect, the largest family history conference in the world.
“Do you sometimes wonder how your ancestors moved, smiled and looked in real life? Now you can see your ancestors from past generations like never before! ”MyHeritage posted on a blog on February 25th. “This new addition to our set of photographic tools produces a realistic representation of how a person in an old photo could have moved and looked if they had been captured on video.”
The resource helped some to feel a deeper connection with lost loved ones.
A person tweeted: “My mother died of cancer in 2017. … I never had a happy video of her. This is from a photo of her as a teenager, all smiling. I’m not crying hysterically or anything. “

Another person identified as “Almost known history”He tweeted a photo of his young grandfather in military uniform with the message:“ It is so bizarre to see him brought to life – I never met my grandfather, however, I used to imagine a young soldier standing at my door smiling just before falling asleep. “
Since the announcement, Deep Nostalgia has gained popularity as people have used social media to share animated photos of famous people and works of art, including Mona Lisa, Ludwig van Beethoven, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Oscar Wilde, Nicola Tesla and Albert Einstein, using hashtags #DeepNostalgia and #My inheritance.
There are four steps to using deep nostalgia:
- Download the MyHeritage app using iOS or Android.
- Get in.
- Upload the photo you want to animate.
- Touch the image and then touch the animation icon. After a brief wait, you can download and share with friends.
