‘My body is just exhausted’

Olympic gold medal gymnast Shawn Johnson, who is pregnant with her second child by husband Andrew East, revealed on Sunday that she tested positive for COVID-19.

The gold medal winner at the 2008 Olympic Games revealed her coronavirus test results in a long note posted in her Instagram stories.

“They tested positive for COVID,” wrote Johnson, 29. “I’m not going to lie … I’m nervous knowing that I’m sure.”

The highlight of “Dancing With the Stars” revealed earlier this month that she is pregnant with the couple’s second child. Johnson said on Sunday that “my body is exhausted” after spending the past two weeks taking care of the couple’s 15-month-old daughter, Drew Hazel, who had contracted RSV (respiratory syncytial virus).

“I don’t want to make my family sick,” wrote Johnson, who added that she had a pre-existing asthma condition all her life. “So, it scares me a little more.”

In addition, Johnson had a close relative “fighting for his life last month while fighting COVID, so it’s a serious matter of concern / it hits the home in our home.”

On Sunday, Johnson said he had “a cough, terrible sore throat and a headache” in addition to fatigue. She suspects that pregnancy increases fatigue.

Johnson said he was making the news public as a service.

“I’m not looking for any pity parties, just a reminder to take care of yourself,” wrote Johnson, from Nashville, encouraging readers to drink water and wash their hands. She also felt greater empathy for other people facing health problems.

“Oh, and I just need to say, praying so hard for all those babies out there (sentimental mommy here) and everyone fighting for their health,” she wrote.
