ISLAMABAD – A major blackout hit Pakistan on Sunday morning, one of the biggest power failures afflicting the country of more than 200 million.
The blackout affected much of the country, including major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and others.
A report on the Propakistani website said that the failure occurred after a power line was disconnected from the national grid, although the exact cause was not immediately clear. He quoted officials from the power ministry as saying that restoring power can take hours.
Pakistan’s state broadcaster said in Twitter that the energy ministry was “overseeing the rapid and complete restoration of power in the country”. He urged people to follow the authentic news and not to spread panic.
