Mrs. Doubtfire may have been a naughty nanny.
Fans of the 1993 film, starring Robin Williams, are demanding to see the daring NC-17 version of the film after a viral tweet suggested that there is. The Twitter Film Facts account stated that the late actor “improvised so much” during the shooting of the film directed by Chris Columbus that “there were PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 cuts from the film.”
Now Twitter users are begging to get their hands on this bold cut.
“The public deserves to see NC-17 Mrs. Doubtfire,” wrote a fan. “NC 17 Miss. Doubtfire is what the world needs after more than a year in Covid, ” sounded in another.
Some users even joked about giving up your $ 1,400 stimulus checks to have a chance to watch this iconic edition of the film, which ended up with a PG-13 rating.
The existence of versions classified as R- and NC-17 by “Mrs. Doubtfire ”stems from a 2015 Yahoo Entertainment interview with Columbus, who praised the“ Mork & Mindy ”star for his incredible acting and improvisational skills.
Williams was “without a doubt, the best actor I worked with,” said the director, who is also known as “Home Alone”.
He explained that, in order to facilitate Williams’ gift for improvisation, several cameras were positioned at all angles – “like filming a documentary” – to better capture the comic actor’s facial expressions.
“For example, in the dinner scene at the end of the film, the other actors had no idea what he was going to say,” said Columbus. “And it was by capturing his expressions and reactions the first time they heard him say something like that.”
With Williams ‘ability to tell jokes quickly, Columbus ended up with four different versions of’ Mrs. Doubtfire ‘in the editing room. “Literally, a PG-13, R and NC-17 version of the film,” he revealed.
Mara Wilson, who played Williams’ daughter in the film, also confirmed that there may be a censored edition somewhere, as the star liked to push the limits and test the limits.
“I don’t know about NC-17, but with some of the things [Robin] said, I’m sure there was probably an R cut somewhere, “said the 33-year-old actress at Logo’s Cocktails & Classics in 2016.
Fans will still have another version of the character in one form or another, because the story has been adapted into a musical – although its Broadway debut is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.
