‘Mrs. Doubtfire director confirms R-rated edition of Robin Williams film

The director of Mrs. Doubtfire confirmed the existence of a censored version of the beloved 1993 family film, but added that that version of the film will probably never be released.

Earlier this week, a Twitter account that reveals facts about movies noticed like “there were PG, PG-13, R and NC-17 cuts from the movie” due to actor Robin Williams’ tendency to improvise during production. Soon after, social media was on fire with demands to release the NC-17 version of the film.

Although there is no NC-17 version of the PG-13 film – as director Chris Columbus has jokingly revealed – he said Weekly entertainment Friday there is an R-rated cut.

“The reality is that there was an agreement between Robin and me, which was, he would do one or two, three takes with a script. And then he said, ‘So let me play.’ And we would basically do between 15 and 22 takes, I think 22 is the maximum I can remember, ”said Columbus EW.

“He sometimes entered a territory that would not be appropriate for a PG-13 film, but certainly appropriate and hilarious for a censored film.”

However, unlike Zack Snyder’s Justice League, don’t expect a Robin Williams Mrs. Doubtfire to see the release: Columbus said he would only release part of the material if a documentary from the 1993 film was produced. “I only know what’s in the movie right now because it’s been a long time. But I remember it was absurdly funny material, ”said Columbus, adding that a documentary would be“ the best approach ”for unseen material.
