Mountain lion seen climbing fences in backyards captured in Orange County

TUSTIN, Calif. (KABC) – A mountain lion spotted climbing fences and in backyards in Orange County on Saturday morning was captured, officials say.

Authorities in Tustin and the unincorporated area of Santa Ana received several calls from residents who reported seeing the big cat at around 8:30 am, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Animal control officers responded to the area and sought help from the sheriff’s department.

At 11:30 am, they saw the mountain lion and reassured him. The video of the scene shows the subjugated feline being tied on the front lawn of a house before being loaded into a vehicle for transport.

No injuries to other animals or residents were reported, but some residents of the area were surprised to learn of their presence in the neighborhood.

“This is very shocking. I’ve been here for 15 years … we have an occasional coyote, but a mountain lion, jumping over fences apparently, (is) quite unusual,” said Jeff Bryant.

Bryant was scouring the area for his family’s 10-year-old cat, who he said had unusually disappeared on Friday night.
