A new commercial for Mountain Dew Zero Sugar features the return of Gremlins star Zack Galligan, as well as Mogwai Gizmo.
The commercial shows Billy Peltzer of Galligan’s offer to share a bottle of Mountain Dew Zero Sugar with Gizmo before telling him to be careful. However, Gizmo ends up spilling Dew on himself – and soon after, more Mogwai start to appear. The commercial ends with the appearance of Billy’s daughter, who has her own Mohawk Mogwai.
First debuted in 1984, Gremlins it was a commercial and critical success that led to the 1990s Gremlins 2: the new batch. A third film never appeared, although Chris Columbus has been working on his own version of the script for years.
The Gremlins will return soon in the HBO Max animated series Gremlins: Mogwai’s secrets. Set before the events of the first Gremlins The film follows Sam Wing – the future store owner where Billy meets Gizmo in the first film – and Gizmo as they fight industrial evil and their army of Gremlins. The series features a cast of star voices, including Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian) and BD Wong (Jurassic World) as Sam’s parents.
