The Moto Edge S released in China earlier this year, although we didn’t know when it would come elsewhere. But a new set of leaks suggests that it will be renamed and launched as the Moto G100 when it reaches other markets.
The leaks did not say when that would happen, but images courtesy of TechnikNews and XDA Developers’ Adam Conway show renderings of Moto G100 phones that look a lot like Moto Edge S.
So here it is. Official renderings of the Moto G100. It is almost identical, only the colors change slightly. @AdamConwayIE x @TechnikNewsNET https://t.co/w8seF1xh24 # MotoG100March 13, 2021
Just to be clear: the image at the top of the article is an official Motorola photo of the Moto Edge S, while the photos leaked above are supposedly from the Moto G100. They seem to have the same quad rear camera, dual selfie camera on the front screen and wide lock button slightly recessed on the side (which probably works as a fingerprint sensor like the Moto G Stylus).
It is entirely possible that the leaks accidentally mistakenly named the first as the last, but if it is true, we will finally have an explanation for the name G100 that came up elsewhere, without much detail about the function that this phone will occupy.
Moto G100: today’s flagship with yesterday’s specs?
While the G100 was nominated in a List of unreleased devices mentioned by Google on your Play Store. For AR / ARCore documentation, we haven’t heard anything about the phone with that name yet. Assuming the G100 is a renamed Moto Edge S, we know a lot more.
To start, the Edge S bundles a Snapdragon 870 (basically a repackaged version of last year’s leading Snapdragon 865 chipset with settings for the launch of 5G phones), a large Full HD Plus resolution screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a 5,000 mAh battery, 5G connectivity and a front square rear camera with a 64 MP main lens.
The basic configuration of the Edge S includes 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage per CNY 1,999 (about $ 309 / £ 220 / AU $ 399), reaching 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage per CNY 2,799 (about US $ 433 / £ 310 / AU $ 559).
Of course, these prices can change, especially given their almost emblematic specifications for mid-range prices. With the accessible G10 Power and the one with higher specifications Moto G30 now on sale in select regions, and the Moto G40 supposedly on the way, we could see the Edge S / Moto G100 as a superior mid-range or affordable model launched this year for markets that are not familiar with the Moto Edge brand.
