Moto G series receives 2021 update with new designs and specifications

The long and popular Moto G series had a smooth restart in 2020 with the Moto G Stylus and Moto G Power, and now Motorola is launching a quartet of new Moto G phones for 2021 to be launched on January 14. Here’s what you need to know.

Stylus Moto G (2021)

The most exciting Moto G of last year was the Moto G Stylus, and its 2021 update is a marginal update. The overall look is very similar with a large screen and a punctured camera, but at the rear the fingerprint sensor is gone and the camera module has also been updated.

In the spec sheet, the Moto G Stylus 2021 brings the updated Snapdragon 678, a chip still “only” capable of 4G LTE, as well as 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage (with microSD), a 1080p 6 LCD screen, 8 inches and a 4,000 mAh battery. The phone offers 10 W of charging via USB-C, but does not yet support NFC. As for the cameras, there is a primary camera of 48 MP, ultra Wide of 8 MP, macro of 2 MP and the selfies trigger has 16 MP.

In terms of software, the same features are found here, with no noticeable additions, although the phone is being released with Android 10 instead of 11. The phone is promised to get Android 11 (just like the rest of these versions), but nobody knows beyond that point with Moto’s bad track record.

The only notable changes on this phone, in addition to the updated processor, are the fingerprint sensor, which is now integrated into the on / off button instead of the back, just like the pen itself. It is still a “dumb” pen, but Motorola has adopted a click mechanism like the Galaxy Note series that makes the pen easier to remove from its silo.

The Moto G Stylus 2021 will cost $ 299.

Moto G Power (2021)

Another successor to last year’s lineup is the Moto G Power, and again, it’s a much smaller update. The phone has an updated Snapdragon 662 processor, 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB of storage and a 6.6 inch 720p LCD display. There is no NFC, but there is a microSD slot. True to its name, there is also a 5,000 mAh battery that charges up to 10W.

In front of the camera, there is a 48 MP main camera, 2 MP depth shooter, 2 MP macro and an 8 MP selfie camera that is inside a hole in the LCD. Like the Moto G Stylus, it also adopts a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and comes with Android 10.

The Moto G Power 2021 will start at $ 199.

Moto G Play (2021)

The most accessible device on the list this year is a revival of the Moto G Play. The $ 169 phone uses the Snapdragon 460 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage (with microSD), has a 5,000 mAh battery and a 5MP teardrop camera invading its 6.5 inch display. 720p. The phone also comes with Android 10 and has a 13 MP main camera and a 2 MP depth camera on the back.

Moto One 5G Ace

Perhaps the most exciting device in this line is the Moto One 5G Ace, Motorola’s answer to the Pixel 4a and OnePlus Nord. Under the hood is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G processor that allows 5G connectivity and performance that destroys everything else the company is announcing today, but actually lags behind other phones in this price range.

The Moto One 5G Ace also offers 4/6 GB of RAM, 64/128 GB of storage with microSD, a 5,000 mAh battery, a 6.7-inch 1080p LCD screen and is the only release here with NFC. This phone again comes with Android 10 and no promises of future updates, as well as four cameras in total. At the rear, a 48 MP primary, 8 MP ultra wide and 2 MP macro. At the front, a 16 MP selfie shooter in a centralized hole punch.

The Moto One 5G Ace costs $ 399 for the 6/128 GB model and, in the US, will run on the T-Mobile 5G network ready for use, with support from Verizon coming later.

This device, as well as the others, will be sold widely unlocked, as well as on carriers, including: AT&T, Cricket, Boost Mobile, Consumer Cellular, Google Fi, T-Mobile Metro, T-Mobile, Republic Wireless, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile .
