Mother attacks man accused of spying through daughter’s window

The video from the police dashcam in Lake Jackson, Texas, showed the moment when a mother dropped a teenager on the floor after saying she saw him peeking out of her daughter’s window.

Phyllis Pena told KPRC, an affiliate of NBC in Houston, that she was returning home from a trip to the store around 7 am on January 31 when she saw Zane Hawkins, 19, looking at her 15-year-old daughter’s room.

His daughter was not in the room at the time, but Hawkins ran off as soon as he saw Pena, who called the police when he saw him leaving.

“My children are my life, and just making sure I protect them,” Pena told KPRC.

The video shows the moment when Pena attacks the teenager, and her daughter helps her to hold him until the police approach to arrest him.

Pena said that neither she nor her children know the suspect.

Hawkins was taken into custody after being approached by Pena, according to a press release from the Lake Jackson Police Department. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, avoiding arrest and resisting arrest.

It was not clear on Thursday whether Hawkins has legal representation.

“It is not very common for us to have someone who really intervenes, puts himself in danger to help in the arrest of someone”, the sergeant. Roy Welch told KPRC.
