Mother arrested after 5-year-old girl was killed in suspected traffic accident

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) 14h Update – Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office identified Nory Lam, 26, as the driver of a car that crashed, killing Aleah A. Reyes, 5, on Sunday morning.

Reyes’ mother Lam was arrested for manslaughter, drunk driving, and carrying an open container of alcohol.

At this point, investigators believe the Ford Escape was driving west on 47th Street South.

A five-year-old girl died after an alleged drunk traffic accident on Sunday morning. It happened around 3:15 on 47th Street South and 127th E.

An assistant to the Sedgwick County sheriff told us that a woman in her early twenties was heading west on 47th Street South when she got off the road and hit a concrete culvert at 127th E.

The girl, who was a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was not seriously injured and refused treatment with EMS.

The deputies believe that alcohol was a factor in the accident.

No other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Accident reconstruction teams spent several hours on Sunday morning investigating what happened.
