Most Wisconsin counties have ‘very high’ activity levels for spreading COVID-19

MADISON, Wisconsin – The vast majority of counties in Wisconsin continue to have “very high” activity levels for COVID-19 spread before Christmas, according to data from the state’s Department of Health Services.

Despite this, DHS officials said the positive percentage of new COVID-19 tests dropped again. The rate of positivity in seven days of new tests per person fell to 25.1%, while the equivalent in seven days for the total of tests per day also fell to 8.9%.

State and local health officials registered 2,737 * new cases of the virus on Thursday, which is above the seven-day moving average of 2,564. The state reached a historic total of 466,643 * and about 33,000, or 7.2% of cases, are active.

At least 4,759 * have died of coronavirus complications since the start of the pandemic, with 55 new deaths confirmed on Thursday.

DHS officials said an additional 128 people were also hospitalized in the past 24 hours. Of the 11,078 hospital beds in the state, 19% are available for new patients.

Despite President Donald Trump’s request for direct payments of $ 2,000 for most Americans, House Republicans rejected the president’s demand for larger COVID-19 relief checks.
