Most of COVID will be gone in April or May due to vaccines, herd immunity: Dr. Marty Makary

Progress in vaccine launches and growing collective immunity means that the coronavirus pandemic is expected to virtually disappear in the United States in April or May, Fox News medical collaborator Dr. Marty Makary told America’s Newsroom on Thursday. .

Last month, Makary – a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health – predicted in an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal that America will have “herd immunity in April”.

“Some people say, ‘Look, the projection I said gave people a false sense of security.’ I think it really encouraged people to do what they need to do until we get to that point, because hope is on its way and I think the numbers are pointing in that direction, “said Makary.

His comments came after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) predicted that deaths from COVID-19 could decline dramatically in the next four weeks.

CORONAVIRUS IN THE USA: STATE-BY-STATE DISTRIBUTION

The CDC forecast suggests that between 3,200 and 10,100 Americans will die of COVID-19 during the week of April 4 to 10.

“We are seeing really good news,” said Makary, who noted that 10 states had days when they did not report coronavirus deaths.

“I call this collective immunity,” continued Makary.

“I don’t think we are going to extinguish this virus, as I wrote in that article,” he said later in the segment. “But there is going to be a debate: ‘Who are these people?’ And these will be mainly young people with mild and asymptomatic disease. They can last until May and early June. “

As of Wednesday morning, the new coronavirus infected more than 120,710,811 people in 192 countries and territories, resulting in at least 2,670,763 deaths. In the USA, all 50 states plus the District of Columbia reported confirmed cases of COVID-19, totaling more than 29,549,010 diseases and at least 536,914 deaths.
