A more infectious strain of coronavirus first detected in the UK has officially arrived in the United States. Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced on Twitter on Tuesday that state health officials had found a case of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.7 in a male patient in his twenties. The patient had no travel history, according to a statement published by Polis.
Experts told The Daily Beast last week that the variant was probably already in the United States, as it was first seen in September and due to a lack of travel restrictions. Although B.1.1.7 has been linked to an increase in cases in the south of the UK, there is still no evidence that it is more lethal or resistant to the vaccine.
