CNN has requested comments from the offices of Republican Party leader in the House, Kevin McCarthy, and Republican Party Conference President Liz Cheney, but has so far received no response.
Republican House Representative Steve Scalise said in a statement to CNN: “I have always condemned the use of violent rhetoric in politics on both sides, and that is no exception. There is no place for comments like that in our political speech” .
Greene has a history of incendiary rhetoric, including previous comments using Islamophobic and anti-Semitic tropes. It also has links to the baseless and completely unmasked QAnon conspiracy theory. The CNN KFile report once again puts Republican leaders in a position to decide how to respond – and so far most are refusing to give their opinion.
Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, a frequent critic of former President Trump who urged Republicans to denounce QAnon, responded critically to CNN’s KFile report, tweeting, “She is not a Republican. Many claim the title of Republicans and not have nothing in common with our core values. They are RINOS. She is a RINO. “
In a January 2019 post, Greene liked a comment that said “a bullet to the head would be faster” to remove Mayor Nancy Pelosi. In other posts, Greene liked comments about the execution of FBI agents who, in his eyes, were part of the “deep state” that worked against former President Donald Trump.
After CNN contacted Greene, her personal Twitter account posted a statement in which she did not deny that she liked posts and responded to comments, but claimed that many people had her Facebook page.
“Over the years, I have had teams of people managing my pages. Many posts were liked. Many posts were shared. Some did not represent my opinions. Especially those that CNN is about to publish on the internet, ”she wrote.
Greene did not specify whether she or a member of her team was behind the posts reviewed by CNN’s KFile.
Several Democrats spoke out against Taylor Greene following the report, suggesting that the congresswoman poses a threat as a result of her rhetoric.
Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton tweeted in response: “This woman should be on a watch list. Not in Congress.”
House Rules Committee Chairman Jim McGovern, a Massachusetts Democrat, tweeted, “And they wonder why we don’t want members carrying guns on the House floor.”
Taylor Greene also faced a negative reaction to the recently re-emerged comments about the Parkland school shooting.
Students who survived the shooting in Parkland, Florida, at the school and in the victims’ families asked for Taylor Greene’s resignation after comments emerged that showed his agreement with people who said the 2018 shooting was a “false flag” operation.
Taylor Greene tweeted on Tuesday that she was “too excited” to join the House Education and Work Committee after Ranking Member Virginia Foxx announced her appointment to the committee.
CNN reached the president and senior member of the House Education and Work committee about Greene’s nomination, with no response so far.
Democratic Representative Haley Stevens, who serves on the Education and Labor committee, asked for Greene’s removal in a statement provided to CNN.
“I am deeply disturbed by the revelation of Rep. Greene’s denial of the shooting at the Parkland school and the video that shows it publicly provoking a teenager surviving the massacre. The Republican Party conference made an offensive mistake by putting her on the committee. “
Stevens said: “I respectfully ask the Republican Party conference to withdraw its nomination for the Education and Labor committee, as its nomination does not represent the deep care and concern that all members of Congress must show to American children. Their painful antics. are a distraction to address the challenges that our nation faces and are threatening children across the country. I will always be a staunch advocate for American children and will strive to make our schools safer. I am praying for Rep. Greene and I hope that GOP conference move quickly to the right is wrong. “
