Mortal Kombat movie: first photos of Sub-Zero, Jax, Liu Kang and more

The formative years Mortal combat the reboot of the movie is almost here. On Friday, Warner Bros. revealed the first images of director Simon McQuoid’s next film, which is due to hit theaters and HBO Max in April. It’s our first look at the iconic Mortal combat characters Scorpio, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax, Sonya and Kano, and the debut of newcomer Cole Young. (No, not Kole Young.)

According to an official synopsis of Warner Bros. history, Cole is a mixed martial arts fighter who bears a mysterious birthmark – one in the shape of the Mortal Kombat dragon logo. Cole is also the target of Sub-Zero, the cryomancer ninja sent from Outworld to Earthrealm by Shang Tsung to – it must be assumed – remove the spine of the MMA fighter. Exactly why Shang Tsung wants Cole’s death is unclear.

Here is Cole, portrayed by Lewis Tan (Wu Assassins), and Sub-Zero, played by Joe Taslim (The Raid):

Fearing for the safety of his family, Warner Bros. Pictures says, “Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade in the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who carries the same strange dragon that Cole was born with.” Here are Jax and Sonya, played by Mehcad Brooks and Jessica McNamee, respectively, in the new Mortal combat movie.

Cole will find refuge under Lord Raiden, Earthrealm’s protective thunder god. According to Warner Bros., Raiden grants sanctuary to warriors who carry the dragon mark seen on Cole, Jax and others. This includes Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kano, who are played by Ludi Lin, Max Huang and Josh Lawson, respectively. They will train together like they “[prepare] to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against Outworld’s enemies in a high-risk battle across the universe. “

You have to take a Kano’s heel curve at some point, given everything we know about Kano.

According to a preview from Entertainment Weekly, the Mortal combat film will begin in feudal Japan, with a battle between Sub-Zero / Bi-Han and Scorpion / Hanzo Hasashi, before acquiring their arcane-powered supernatural skills. Things will invariably go wrong for rival ninja warriors from there.
