Morris Chestnut he is choosing his words very carefully, but it is clear that his “godfather” character will follow romantically in the new TV series based on the hit movies.
The ‘Best Man’ star told TMZ … fans haven’t seen his character, Lance Sullivan, go through an emotional roller coaster after the death of his wife Mia (Monica Calhoun) death from cancer.
Morris says the new series – “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” – will offer Lance some closure and possibly a new woman in his life. MC knows how much the fans loved Lance and Mia as a couple … so he emphasizes, “There will never be anyone who can replace Mia.”
Loyal followers of the franchise have never seen Morris mourn Mia’s death in the sequel to ‘Best Man Holiday’ – but that is about to change. The Peacock streaming service ordered 10 episodes for a limited series with the entire original cast – Melissa De Sousa, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long and Harold Perrineau.
The creators are planning a debut in September. Malcolm D. Lee, who wrote and directed the 1999 and 2013 films, will write and produce with Dayna Lynne North … best known for writing / producing the HBO hit “Insecure”.
One more thing about the new series … Morris says it will likely include some of the real life events we’re all going through now.
