Country singer Morgan Wallen asked his fans not to defend him because he “was wrong” and now “appropriates” the problems caused by a racial slander recorded by a neighbor.
Wallen went to Instagram and delivered a five-minute video about what happened the night it was recorded saying goodbye to friends and using the word N. The consequences of that incident saw him suspended by his record company, taken off the radio and dismissed by many representatives and country-like institutions.
Wallen, 27, remained silent, but today appeared to tell his version of the story.
“The video you saw was me at the 72nd hour of a bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of either,” he said. “Obviously, the natural thing to do is to apologize more and continue to apologize because you were caught, and that is not what I wanted to do.”
Wallen regretted the people he disappointed in his conduct and said he apologized to them. He also reached out and got involved in “some very real and honest conversations” with leaders from various black organizations. Although unspecified, Wallen said they offered him a chance to “learn and grow”.
Wallen said he learned that “a word can really hurt a person”.
“This week I heard firsthand some personal stories from black people who honestly shook me,” he added. “And I know that what I’m going through this week doesn’t even compare to some of the trials that I’ve experienced. I left these discussions with a deep appreciation for them and a clearer understanding of the weight of my words.
“Our actions are important. Our words are important and I just want to encourage anyone who is watching, please learn from my mistake, ”he said. “There is no reason to minimize what I have done. It is important and know that I am carefully choosing my next repair steps. “
Wallen said he would be out of the loop for a while and revealed that he had been sober for nine days.
“I want my team, my family, my friends and even strangers to trust me. Hell, I want to trust me. Who knows if I will be able to overcome all the mistakes I made, but I will definitely try ”.
