After nearly three months of provocations and a “leak” from the chain of stores, Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: the double album – in all its 30-track glory – was released on Friday. One of the most anticipated tracks pairs Wallen with Chris Stapleton. “Only Thing That’s Gone”, written by Wallen with Matt Dragstrem, Chase McGill and Josh Thompson, offers a strong dose of country-soul.
Wallen kicks off in the middle of the slow pace, telling the story of the breakup to a sympathetic bartender. “She told me where I could go / I just stopped here before I went,” he sings. Stapleton enters the second verse, offering “a hundred and a few bucks” to keep the glass full and offering $ 20 for the band – if they don’t play any sad songs. “Only Thing That Gone” turns into a crispy guitar solo and the latest in a long line of classic country rewards: “Buddy, my last drink is not the only one that is over,” Wallen and Stapleton harmonize.
Dangerous: the double album it also includes Wallen’s hits like “7 Summers” and “More Than My Hometown”, along with his popular cover of Jason Isbell’s “Cover Me Up”. The record, the follow-up to Wallen’s debut in 2018 If I know myself, is about to have a great performance. In December, it set a record for Apple Music as the most added country album in the platform’s history.
