More than 40 homeless residents on fire in an apartment in south Lincoln

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Between 40 and 50 residents of an apartment in south Lincoln were displaced after a fire on Monday morning.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue was dispatched to Southwood Village apartments on 27th and Highway 2 at around 5 am.

LFR noticed heavy fire between the roof and the roof of the building, prompting teams to tear down ceilings inside the building to fight the flames. The smoke detectors did not sound because of the location of the fire, said LFR.

No injuries were reported.

A southbound lane on 27th Street was reopened shortly after 8 am. Traffic on Highway 2 was not affected.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
